Palestinian diplomat and ambassador to the United Kningdom Husam Zomlot held talks today regarding the situation in Palestine with the UK Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa James Cleverly as well as with British MPs and representatives of the civil society.
Zomlot briefed Cleverly about th latest developments in Palestine, on top of which are the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing Israeli violations which contradict with international law.
He told the British minister that "the [Israeli] occupation of Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza poses additional challenges for the Palestinian government" at this current critical stage.
"Israel violates international law that obliges it as an occupying power to provide medical services, including vaccines," said Zomlot during the meeting, as he called on the British government to place Palestine at its top priority in making available the AstraZeneca vaccine in cooperation with the University of Oxford in Britain.
During the meeting, Zomlot called on Britain to impose sanctions on Israel as an occupying power for its ongoing colonial settlement activities and demolitions of Palestinian-owned homes in the occupied territories.
In the meantime, the Palestinian diplomat held a briefing session with members of the UK Parliament, in addition to representatives of civil society institutions and solidarity committees, where he briefed them about the recent developments in Palestine.
Zomlot also discussed with the British MPs the campaign led by Israel and its allies in Britain to ban any discussion about the rights of the Palestinian people and stifle any possibility for criticism of the Israeli occupation's policies.
