President Mahmoud Abbas chaired today evening a meeting of the Central Committee of ruling Fatah Movement at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
The Abbas briefed the attendees of the the latest political developments, including efforts to mobilize Arab and international support to the Palestinian cause in the way to ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the need to solve the refugees issue in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 194.
The President stressed the importance of consolidating the work of the International Quartet, which recently met in an effort to push the peace process forward in accordance with the agreed-upon international references and the Arab Peace Initiative. He stressed the importance of holding an international peace conference aimed at reviving the peace process.
President Abbas commended the efforts made by the Ad-Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) in its recent meeting on February 23, 2021, chaired by Norway and attended by 30 countries and international organizations, and the resulting emphasis on maintaining assistance to the Palestinian economy, building state institutions and infrastructure, and supporting the elections in Palestine as per the presidential decree.
The President also stressed the importance of implementing the provisions of the Presidential Decree on Boosting Public Freedoms in the State of Palestine, paving the way for the holding of a transparent, free and fair general election that consolidates the democratic life in Palestine.
He stressed the need to provide all the appropriate conditions for holding the election on their scheduled dates, and the need for all the parties concerned to be committed to the understandings reached during the previous national dialogue sessions.
