On the morning of September 11, 2001, two airplanes were crashed into the World Trade Center in a terrorist attack that shook not only America but the world. Mark LaGanga took an elevator to the 65th floor of the General Electric Building and photographed blazing towers. Associated Pressa office was located on the 64th floor of the World Trade Center and when Kelly Guenther grabbed his camera from his desk, he was ready to capture what would become some of the most iconic footage in history. His footage gives viewers a glimpse into what it must have been like for those first responders minutes after both towers had collapsed. The camera pans over Manhattan’s police boats in New York Harbor as well as views from Rockefeller Center and Brooklyn Heights as smoke rises from Lower Manhattan.
This footage was captured by Mark LaGanga of CBS News National Desk on the morning of September 11th, 2001, when four hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in a terrorist attack. This footage provides a unique firsthand account of what happened that fateful day. LaGanga’s footage captured the only known footage of the third building that was hit by one of the planes. He is heard calling his editor in this film as he documents what is happening in and around the WTC complex. The camera then follows LaGanga inside WTC7 where he films firefighters assessing damage to show how close they were to the destruction caused by the terrorists. Later on, he captures scenes from Main Plaza and along Church Street with views of both towers still standing. His footage provides an amazing look at New York City just moments before they were destroyed in one of America’s most devastating terrorist attacks.
