President Mahmoud Abbas received today a letter from the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in which he thanked him for his call for an international conference for peace in the Middle East.
In his letter, Guterres thanked President Abbas for his call for an international peace conference in the Middle East in accordance with United Nations resolutions and international law, saying the United Nations welcomes all initiatives for international cooperation on a multilateral basis and which may help achieve a just and comprehensive peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
He affirmed that he will continue his consultations with members of the UN Security Council and relevant regional and international actors in order to find the best way forward so as to achieve peace in the Middle East.
The UN chief also stressed the commitment of the United Nations to help the Palestinians and Israelis resolve the conflict on the basis of relevant United Nations resolutions, multilateral agreements and international law, paving the way for two states living side by side based on the pre-1967 borders.
